The Stake Presidency and Mission Presidency announce the following schedule adjustments for all full-time missionaries:
“Nothing happens in missionary work until you find someone to teach” (Preach My Gospel p. 156). Helping missionaries find significantly more people to teach throughout the day is key to increasing convert baptisms. However, prime finding time during the week is between the hours of 4:00 – 8:00 pm when most people are home. We therefore, request that full-time missionaries dedicate this time each day to teaching and finding new people to teach. Missionaries should have dinner during the hour of 4:00 – 5:00 pm. We recognize that most families cannot have missionaries come to dinner at this time. As a result, most days, missionaries will no longer eat dinner in member homes. Members are still welcome to provide food for missionaries, for which they will be very grateful given their limited budget.
Engaging members in finding and improving teaching skills
Members and missionaries working together is the most effective way to find new people to teach, to help them become converted and endure to the end. To become powerful teachers, missionaries need to be constantly teaching and improving their teaching skills. Whenever missionaries are not teaching lessons to non-members between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00 pm, missionaries can be used to strengthen individuals and families by visiting their homes, teaching the gospel and kneeling in prayer to bless members and their homes. These efforts will build faith and help develop relationships of trust. During these visits, missionaries can role play with members how to extend invitations to friends and neighbors in natural ways, and teach lessons to prepare youth to serve missions. Visiting members will allow missionaries to end their day teaching the gospel, sharing their testimonies and praying with those who have faith.
We are so grateful for the generosity and support that the members show to missionaries throughout this stake. We have witnessed miracles as members and missionaries minister together. We encourage priesthood and auxiliary leaders to take the lead in implementing these practices in their respective wards and branches.
Most Sincerely,
Stake Presidency Mission Presidency
